FAQs:
What is Viradent?
Viradent is a topical gel containing the
active ingredient stannous fluoride. Viradent
medication is useful as an aid in caries prevention,
reduction of tooth sensitivity and promoting
healthier gum tissue in patients with periodontal
disease. Viradent has been also known to treat
cold sores, nail fungus, and insect bites.
Is Viradent Safe?
Viradent gel is a FDA and ADA approved product
for the treatment of dental caries. Viradent's
formula is Generally Recognized as Safe and
Effected (GRASE). This status is given only
when the margin of safety is so great that the
formula is permitted to be sold without a prescription.
How do you apply Viradent?
Dental (caries/teeth sensitivity/periodontal
disease)
Brush teeth with viradent gel twice daily
or as directed by Physician or Dentist. Do not
swallow. Do not use on children under 6 years
of age unless directed by Physician or Doctor.
Non Dental (Cold sores / Nail fungus /
bug bites )
Apply viradent medication directly to affected
area, coating liberally and rubbing in thoroughly.
Keep coated by reapplying 3-4 times daily. Apply
it when the first signs of notable tissue damage
occur.
How effective is Viradent gel on cold sore
outbreaks?
Results of an FDA cold sore clinical trial
with 0.4% stannous fluoride gel (viradent):
- Promotes faster healing time by more
than two days following an outbreak.
- Prevents outbreaks against UV light.
Results in smaller cold sore sizes when
used preventively.
- Can delay an outbreak.
- Has no noted side effects.
Who invented Viradent?
The connection between stannous fluoride
and herpes was the discovery of a dentist Dr.
William J. Embro. In 1985 Dr. Embro began studies
on the connection between the use of topical
stannous fluoride and the healing of herpes
lesions. Studies done at the University of Manitoba
and Smith-Kline Laboratories confirm this compound
as a viable weapon in the fight against herpes.
Dr. Embro invented and patented the well-known
medication "Viraderm" and is currently developing
other medications. Viradent is an improved product
in the fight against herpes.
Is Viradent different than other medications?
Viradent, unlike most OTC (over the counter)
cold sore products, contains ingredients that
actually KILL the herpes virus once the virus
is released from nerve endings into skin tissue.
Other products only make the lesions "feel better"
for a short time. As a result of KILLING the
virus two things naturally occur:
- The actual healing time of the lesions
is significantly reduced.
- The actual "viral titer" in the body
of the virus itself is reduced. This could
possibly make future outbreaks less frequent
and/or less severe in nature.
What is the mechanism of action?
Although the mechanism of action is unclear,
it appears that the antiviral effect on the
herpes simplex virus can be primarily attributed
to the divalent cation tin (Sn++). It is believed
that the stannous cation exerts its activity
by interacting with negatively charged receptor
glycoprotein's on the membrane of the herpes
virus, thus impeding its ability to infect epidermal
cells. In addition to the antiviral effectiveness
of the stannous ion, fluoride is also known
to interfere with cellular metabolism which
can also affect the course of the herpes simplex
infection.
Testimonials:
“I would like to thank you for introducing
me to viradent. I have suffered with mouth ulcers
all my adult life. Through the years, I have tried
many things but nothing has worked. I have used
viradent on several occasions. This is the first
thing that I can honestly say has helped me. The
severity of the ulcers and the length of time it
takes for them to heal has been drastically reduced.”
JH
“My granddaughter suffers from reoccurring
sores on her lips. Your medication viradent, is
the only thing we’ve found that takes care of the
problem. As soon as a place starts on her lips (and
this happens often) we start using the medicine,
and it takes care of it. I am very grateful for
the viradent. I don’t know what we would do without
it. Thank you very very much.” RM
“I would like to thank you for giving me the
opportunity to try viradent. I suffered for many
years with painful, unsightly cold sores. Since
I have used your medicine, I have had very few recurrences
and it provides pain relief better than anything
I have used in the past.” PM
“Most OTC’s tasted bad and were sticky. viradent
was soothing and tasted good.” BM
“Zovirax did not provide relief nor fast healing.
Healing was much faster with viradent.” EC
“I have used Herpicin L, Zovirax, Blistex,
and many more, but none provide the pain relief
or fast healing like viradent. This product has
prevented recurrent blisters. I used to get cold
sores about 6-7 times a year. Now, I get 1 or 2
a year, since I started using viradent.” AQ
